The National Flag Commemoration Ceremony
On March 7th, three students from the training centre, Darragh Murray, Dean Mulcahy and Luke O’Mahony accompanied by the Chairman of the Board, John Clohessy and instructor, Liam O’Sullivan attended the National Flag Post Primary Commemoration Ceremony. Schoolchildren from throughout the country were presented with the National Flag and a copy of the 1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic in a state ceremony attended by many dignitaries from the worlds of politics, the media and the armed forces. President Michael D Higgins addressed the young people present and spoke of how the country needed their creativity, their imaginations and their dreams. He reminded those present that many of those involved in the 1916 rising were of school age, and that their impact is still being felt today.
On March the 15th, schools and educational institutions around the country will participate in a flag raising ceremony at noon where the 1916 proclamation will be read aloud by a student in commemoration of those who fell.
